Campari Apricot Spritzer
- 1 oz Campari
- 2 oz Apricot Nectar ( I use Looza)
- 1 oz Soda Water
- Satsuma Twist
- Ice
Pour Campari, apricot nectar and soda water in highball or wine glass over ice. Add satsuma twist.
Enjoy.
Campari is a bitter Italian aperitif. It has a distinctive flavor that you either love or hate. If you love it, you will love this recipe. Substitute orange, grapefruit or another sweet citrus or fruit juice for apricot if you don’t have it.
Pssst If you live in the Portland area, Grocery Outlet in Hollywood has Looza Peach, Looza Apricot and Looza Mango on sale right now.

Edited to add: I got a hot tip soon after I hit Publish that Campari is not in fact vegan. After a little research—click here—it appears that my beautiful-tasting bitter red liquor gets it colors from smushed red bugs. Drat.
Edited to add again: It appears that after more research, Campari these days is in fact vegan. The company started phasing out bug-usage a few years ago, using only artificial coloring (Hurray! Hurray?). So drink with a grain of salt—you know what I mean—and enjoy! 5/31/11

apparently the campari in australia is vegan; there’s a blurb about it on barnivore…it would probably be expensive, but you could maybe find somewhere that could ship it over
I think it’s vegan here now, too… I guess Campari uses ‘artificial’ flavoring now, which could or could not be bugs. Awesome.
I’ve screwed up vegan liquor recommendations more times than i can count — it’s so hard to be sure!
Right?
It’s so nice having resources all over the internet these days though.
actually, isn’t campari clarified with gelatin anyway? that would mean that even without the red dye #40, it still isn’t vegan.
Dean, I didn’t come across that in any of my research. Link?
